'Moving on'

This was a short film, which some of the year 7s in my school made about moving to secondary school. My involvement in the film was to help organise the students and provide help when it was needed. I also helped with the post production, stopping behind after to school and dinners to help the film be completed on time. I experienced the organisation needed on a film set and all the planning running up to the final production. The experience was helpful as I gained knowledge on many things, including how cold filming outside can get, and learning to get along with difficult people.

BBFC

The BBFC's  only income is from the chargers from their services, by measuring the running times and working on the classifications of films/DVDs/TV shows etc. Making them a none profiting organisation. The

aim/job of the BBFC is to give a trusted rating of films/TV shows for the appropriate audience.

U stands for universal meaning anyone can watch the film or video if it has this rating. The film/videos are normally aimed a primary school children.
PG stands for parental guidance. This means a child under the age of 12 has to be with someone over 18 to be able to watch this film.
12A and 12 are age ratings that give a guidance to parents and their children to  show wether an adults needs to be present during a film or not. 12A tells the parent that if the child is under 12 there will need to be an adult present. 12 means that no child under 12 is able to watch the film, wether an adult is present or not.

15 is and age rating which says nobody under 15 can watch the film/video.  This age rating is given because the film/video contains violence and/or scenes of a sexual nature.
18 age rating is put on films which contains graphic scenes of violence/gory/sexual scenes. 18 age rating means only adults(people 18 and over) can view the film. Films which are rated at 18 are less likely to get more views as the target audience is limited.

Location

So i did some location searching over the weekend, and i found different woodland areas which would be useful to film. Even though many of these photos look pretty much the same they are different places, however woods all look the same.

During the time of  gathering these images I found myself running through the woods to leave as fast as possible. Walking through the woods on my own wasn't the best idea I've had. I mean there was some guy with a chainsaw, and my phone died.

In this image we plan to film our characters deciding that they are going to take the sort cut through the woods. This will be filmed from many different angles to establish their decision. They'll cross the road into the woods, wake for a sort time and then begin to run.

The other images are the locations where filming will take place. The field area will be were Charlotte revels in the moment, seeing the figure across the field.

Planning

In the lesson on Thursday we planned the weeks running up to our final piece. We made phone calls to our actors to ensure wen they are free to shoot, and planned the days to come. We started our storyboard and filled in the risk assessment. Things are beginning to fall into place and our project is coming together nicely. I plan to look for locations this weekend.

After looking for locations, i decided which places would be best suited for certain parts of the opening sequence. I have been thinking about the different techniques we can use to great different effects with the cameras. I thought we could try my GoPro on the front on my bike or helmet to show the chase between Charlotte and Josh. Different shots through the wood will create an effect which shows the different points of view for both characters, which will let the viewer know how they both feel different about running through the woods. For example Josh is tired, out of breath and stumbling, however Charlotte is enjoying the moment. There will be different music to set the mood in which they feel when cutting from shot to shot.

how our thriller will apply to audience categorisation

Our thriller will apply to the BBFC ratings at 15. We believe this is the correct rating because at 15, teenagers are able to understand the issues around mental illnesses, which this film could be interpreted as portraying. We decided on 15 rated and not 12 or 12A because we our film will include scenes of violence which aren't appropriate for under 15s. We also, however don't believe the film should be rated at 18 because this would limit the audience and the film doesn't include strong gore or horror, meaning that we would be limiting our success without needing to.

We believe that "The Man With The Wooden Shadow" would come under personal identity and entertainment in Blumer and Katz's theory, because some people will watch the film and connect on a personal level with the films happenings and experiences of their own being very similar. Some people will just watch the film for pure entertain meant and not even think about it every being personal to someone else.

We don't believe that the Hypodermic Theory could be applied to our film because people can be understanding of the content of the film which would lead them to understand what is being seeing represented. However, there could be viewers that develop the wrong idea about people with mental illnesses. This could be avoided by explaining with a sort phrase at the bringing of the film warning what is going to be within the film.

This film could be both Mass and Niche however mainly Niche. This is because there could be a big audience who will go and watch the film just based on the trailer and not on their own interests. Although, people might decide to watch it because of the content, others might decide to not watch it because of the trailer and what the film includes. We believer that this film would come more under Niche because more people might choose to watch this film because the genre is of their taste and they are interested. Some people might watch this film based on the fact they can connect to it and understand it and it might even give them more understanding of themselves.
