Pitch

Pitch

Working Title: The Man With The Wooden Shadow
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Length: 90minutes, get to the climax quicker so viewers don’t become bored and disconnected from the film. If the film is too long the viewers will think the film Is tedious and will lose connection to the characters.
Audience: People interested in mystery thriller 15-24years old, we think this is an appropriate for the film because younger audiences might not understand the context of the film. E.g why the girl can see the man but the guy can’t.

Story Line:
There are two friends(Charlotte and Josh)on their way home and they’re are late so they decide to take the short cut through the wood and they begin to start running through the woods as its going dark. The Charlotte begins to get to involved in the running believing it has become a game. Josh starts to become short of breath and is struggling to run and keep up with the pace of his friend. She becomes very excited by what she thinks has become a game. Getting lost in the game she goes the wrong way and ends up running into an open field where she stops suddenly in her tracks. She embraces the air and all the sounds around her spinning with her head back and arms out. All of a sudden there is a block on all the beautiful sounds she is hearing. There is music which begins to create a mysterious era and her eyes are fixed on one point across the field there is a black figure standing bone still, with his hood up and face barely visible, by now the moon has come out and nights fallen. The moon is lighting up the small amount of flesh that we can see on the characters face, a shadow is fallen across the rest of his face. Finally, Josh has caught up with Charlotte and he walks slowly up by her side, still out of breath, he bends over leaning on his knees and says,
“what are you looking at?”
Charlotte doesn’t reply.
Josh says, “you went the wrong way, Charlotte we need to leave.”
He stands and waits for her however she doesn’t move. He says
“what are you doing, we’re going home.”
Without moving a muscle, she says,
“no wait”
Her eyes still locked on the figure, she starts to slowly walk towards the black figure in the distance. Her friend stares very confused at her. The figure in the distance turns around and walks into the wood, she screams,
“WAIT” at him and starts to run. Josh shouts to her,
“there is nothing there and we need to leave now.”
She turns towards her friend and says,

“No. He was there, I saw him.” Charlotte starts to toss and turn franticly looking for the figure. Her friend pulls on her arm several times and pulls her back towards the woods. He says, “We needs to go, right now!” She reply’s with “Okay” still looking back she is guided back to the woods.

Textual Analysis On 'Se7ven'

The opening sequence of 'Se7en' uses extreme close up shots to create a sense of disorientation, they have used this to make the audience find things more difficult to understand and make sense of. The quick cuts to make the opening foreshadow the rest of the film and how it will be a mysterious story. The low angle shots of the detectives show the dominance between them, the two characters change positions through out the scene to show the domination of the conversation at  different points.

In terms of editing the cuts of Morgan Freeman on his own in one place then another, gives the audience an idea of his life and maybe also how he feels. When the shot cuts to him alone in his house, the lighting helps to create a more depressive mood. The lighting is dark and low, implying how he feels, and also how he keeps to himself.

The storm which is heard outside Morgan's window when he is in bed could symbolise how he feels. The sounds all tend to have a melancholy feel about them, and all the scenes that Morgan is in are either dark, have poor lighting or rainy which quite strongly foreshadows the setting for the rest of the film, it makes the viewer subconsciously aware of the dark nature involved within this thriller.

In the scene where Morgan is laid in bed with the storm happening out side of his window, there is a metronome which clicks and a sequence which could represent the organisation within his life and how he feels in control even if he lonely. The way that the lighting, sound, mise-en-scene and camera angles, and editing all work together in this scene to create a sense of sadness, loneliness, organisation but also catastrophe makes this scene very empowering for the representation of the character that Morgan Freeman plays because he is not made out to be a happy person throughout any of the opening sequence. This automatically starts questions being asked about he motives and also what he has experienced. During the titles there is repetition of organisation and order in the person life who we haven't being introduced to yet, the audience make connect these two people as either the same or having something in common. I think the significance of Morgan's character being shown in  negative way before any other character is  because he somehow links to this other character who we don't see (the murder).

Lighting Shots

This shot includes natural lighting from above making the character 's shadows more visual. It makes the character look more like the protagonist.
This shot includes natural side lighting which is used to show up different characteristics on the face of the character. This can be used to make the character look evil and misteryous however also make them look as if they're enjoying them selves and to show a positive side of a character.
This shot is also natural side lighting, however this makes the character look more mysterious because there is a smaller source of lighting.
In this shot there is low angle lighting which makes the character seem more dominant over everything else in shot. The blur on the shot creates a distortion effect.
This is a back lighting shot which makes the character seem to me hiding away in the dark.

The Conjuring Textual Analysis

The opening sequence to The Conjuring creates an era which makes the audience establish the genre the film. The semantic field of death automatically informs the audience of the negativity that will be involved throughout the film. The articles surrounding the plague foreshadow the narrative which appears later on in the play.

The black and white motif creates an effect which makes you feel as if the film is older than it is, this makes the audience sense that someone is odd.
Using actual pictures from a time when they only had black and white makes the audience feel more taken back there, to that time.

The diagetic sound of someone walking/running across a room and exiting through a door with a bell, gives the feeling that you aren't alone in watching the film as if throughout the whole of the film there will be someone watching you.

The titles are kinda of irrelevant because they don't really draw your attention, however the images wouldn't look right if the titles weren't there.

Story Board For Preliminary Task

The story board shows what our first ideas were however during the process of creating our preliminary task we had to make some adjustments. Even though we needed to make the adjustment i think our finished piece turned out quite well to say it was our first time doing anything like this.

practice shots

This the first establishing shot and it gives the viewer more of a knowledge of whats happening. It also sets the scene and gives you and idea of where.
This is a close up shot. It gives the effect that what she is reading is important.
This is a low angle/tilt shot. This shot shows that she is powerful for a second before the school overwhelms her.
Extreme close up. The ECU shows that the paper is important to the story, it is also featured in all the shots before so it shows you what she is looking at.
Shot/reverse shot. This shot shows a conversation between two people and how they are discussing the paper. It shows the emotions on a persons face whilst the other is talking.
Shot/reverse shot. This is the same shot  however the other way around. It shows the other persons emotions.
Tilt shot. This shot creates tension and makes the audience question what is happening.

Extreme long shot. The ELS shows the ending of the images and makes the viewer feel its ending as she is walking away form the camera.

Hello again.
These photo sets include different types of shots such as establishing shot, close up, lower angle/tilt shot, extreme close up, shot/reverse shot, tilt shot and extreme long shot. The story behind the shots is that there is a young girl starting a new school and it her first day and she's struggling to find her way around.

welcome post

Hello, welcome to my blog.

I am really looking forward to taking the media course because i have a strong interest in producing, filming and editing. I think the course will help me understand which part of the filming industry i would like to specialise in. As in the future i wish to extend university, studying media. Also I'm looking for to writing a blog because i think it is a good way to keep track of the work i am doing instead of in a exercise book which I'm more likely to not look back at.

Even though I've only been doing the media course a week it is the most enjoyable out of the subjects I've chosen, i think this because its the career path i would like to take. I am most looking forward to filming, editing and learning about media. So at this moment in time i can't say what I'm least looking forward to but I'm sure the time will come. I could say I'm quite nervous about not being able to film as much as i would like to.

Over the last week i have already learnt about the different shots and what effects they have on the viewer.

I think the thriller genre will be really interesting as there are a lot of different things you can base the film around which will still be classed as a thriller.

I hope you enjoy our final piece.
