Lighting Shots

This shot includes natural lighting from above making the character 's shadows more visual. It makes the character look more like the protagonist.  

This shot includes natural side lighting which is used to show up different characteristics on the face of the character. This can be used to make the character look evil and misteryous however also make them look as if they're enjoying them selves and to show a positive side of a character.

This shot is also natural side lighting, however this makes the character look more mysterious because there is a smaller source of lighting.

In this shot there is low angle lighting which makes the character seem more dominant over everything else in shot. The blur on the shot creates a distortion effect. 

This is a back lighting shot which makes the character seem to me hiding away in the dark.

The Conjuring Textual Analysis

The opening sequence to The Conjuring creates an era which makes the audience establish the genre the film. The semantic field of death automatically informs the audience of the negativity that will be involved throughout the film. The articles surrounding the plague foreshadow the narrative which appears later on in the play.

The black and white motif creates an effect which makes you feel as if the film is older than it is, this makes the audience sense that someone is odd. 

Using actual pictures from a time when they only had black and white makes the audience feel more taken back there, to that time. 

The diagetic sound of someone walking/running across a room and exiting through a door with a bell, gives the feeling that you aren't alone in watching the film as if throughout the whole of the film there will be someone watching you. 

The titles are kinda of irrelevant because they don't really draw your attention, however the images wouldn't look right if the titles weren't there.
